Programmer Analyst II Arbor Research Collaborative for Health, the internationally respected not-for-profit health outcomes research organization based in Ann Arbor, Michigan seeks a Statistical/Database Programmer to work on complex projects involving multiple technologies and multiple data streams. BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Serve as a lead programmer on complex projects involving multiple technologies and multiple streams of data * Be adept at discussing complex projects with non-technical audiences. Use these discussions to formulate a written project plan that ties the technical tasks to the project scope * Demonstrate technical expertise in at least two method areas (object oriented programming, relational database theory, and linear programming methods) Show familiarity with the other method areas, enabling good decisions about the best technical environment for performance of a range of tasks. * Serve as a liaison between the Arbor Research programming and analyst teams and external data requesters, sponsors, and suppliers of data. Provide technical and analytical assistance to these users. * Mentor programmers and analysts in programming techniques and documentation standards, focusing on SAS. Supervise tasks for a wide range of projects. * Be aware of the range of programming approaches available among all the team members for current projects. Identify where cooperation, mentoring, and code-sharing opportunities exist; help facilitate that cooperation. * Review programs for coding efficiency, completeness, and correctness. GENERAL Supervision will be received from the Project Manager for the projects and from the Director of Information Systems. Close collaboration with other technical teams is required as is the ability to mentor more junior-level programmers, including the provision of assistance and assignment of programming related tasks. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE * Bachelor’s degree plus five to ten years progressively more responsible programming experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience * Demonstrated ability to work independently with understanding of study designs * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * A minimum of 5 years SAS programming experience (data step processing, statistical procedures, macro programming) * Experience with SQL-based technologies (principles of relational database structure and referential integrity, basic query and update/insert functions) * Ability to mentor and teach other programmers DESIRABLE BUT NOT ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS * Oracle experience * Experience processing and analyzing data from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) * Health research background * Experience with statistical analyses Send cover letter along, resume, salary requirements to: Human Resources Arbor Research Collaborative for Health 315 W.
