The Arbor Research Visiting Scholars program enables experts from around the world to come to Ann Arbor
for a period of intense collaboration with researchers on our staff. Since 2000, this program has enabled
visiting nephrologists, transplant surgeons, biostatisticians, and pharmacists to spend between one month
and nine months at a time collaborating with senior investigators and analysts on our research. Scholars
have come from the United States, Brazil, and Japan. We are working with the International Society of
Nephrology to enhance the worldwide perspective of this program by including scholars from developing
countries.
Typically, scholars use sabbaticals from their own appointments to join Arbor Research. For cases in which
the scholar may also benefit from involvement or courses at the University of Michigan, an appropriate mix is
determined.
Requests are granted based on the criteria provided and how the proposed research activities are consistent
with and contribute to the research agenda of Arbor Research. Schedules are made according to availability
of Arbor Research resources, which usually prevents more than one visitor at a time.
Previous visiting scholars have included the following:
Dr. Dale Distant (Brooklyn, New York, USA)
Dr. Takeshi Hasegawa (Kyoto, Japan)
Dr. Naoki Kimata (Tokyo, Japan)
Dr. Ken Kunimoto (Tokyo, Japan)
