Rayner HC, Pisoni RL. The increasing use of hemodialysis catheters: evidence from the DOPPS on its significance and ways to reverse it. Semin Dial 2010; 23(1): 6-10
ABSTRACT:
The choice of vascular access is the most significant
modifiable factor affecting hemodialysis (HD) patient
outcomes (1,2). This essay reviews evidence gathered
over more than 10 years by the Dialysis Outcomes
and Practice Patterns Study (DOPPS) regarding
trends in vascular access practice, their clinical significance,
possible causes of changes over time, and

future
